Machine Operator

Brief Position Summary

  • The Machine Operator is responsible for efficiently operating packaging machinery to produce various products according to customer specifications.

Essential Functions:

  • Read and understand daily production schedule and material requirements.
  • Transport needed packaging materials to production area.
  • Set-up and operate packaging equipment with correct materials and product based on order specifications. Stack finished product onto pallets where required.
  • Meet daily production requirements.
  • Perform periodic quality control checks to ensure product is being packaged according to customer requirements (including checking end and back seals, and date codes).
  • Perform efficient changeovers as required per production schedule.
  • When changing product variety, must follow pre-set guidelines and change out filtering screens based on product variety/size. Set, adjust and periodically check the flow of product through a foreign materials machine. Check magnet for any foreign materials and document and report as required.
  • Accurately complete and maintain required documentation on product, materials/supplies, output and machine downtime.
  • Troubleshoot minor packaging problems and make appropriate adjustments on equipment.
  • Communicate with Maintenance personnel on a timely basis to facilitate maintenance and repairs.
  • Comply with company safety policies and maintain clean and orderly work area.
  • Comply with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and Safe Quality Food (SQF) procedures including timely and accurate documentation of required SQF forms.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by Production Lead or Plant Management.

Physical Requirements/Work Environment:

  • Frequently (more than 75% of time) required to: stand and/or walk, use ladders and climb stairs, bend and stoop, reach, push/pull, kneel and crouch. Lift, carry and/or move items up to 50 pounds, without assistance; use hands to finger, handle, or touch objects, tools, or controls, to verbally communicate; and to hear. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Frequently exposed to a non-climate controlled environment.
  • Frequently exposed to dust and loud noise.
  • Frequently exposed to machinery and mechanical, moving parts.
  • Personal protective equipment, such as hearing protection, safety glasses, hair net and food safety related items, is required.

Education/Experience and Skills:

  • HS Diploma or GED.
  • Experience and ability to work in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to perform basic math skills.
  • Effectively communicate questions, problems and reports to co-workers, supervisory and management personnel.
  • Flexibility to accommodate unscheduled changes in duties and work overtime as needed.
  • Must display a positive attitude and work well with all levels of personnel.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
